Alex Luiten, Landscape Architect at
Landscape and Ecology, talks about the importance of working collaboratively for a great landscaping design outcome.

How do you work with Langford on the design, and what do they bring to the table?

The important thing with a specialist contractor is accuracy and precision – both in the execution of the project and in meeting the concept design requirements. It's crucial that the contractor can respond to the design, as well as work within existing site constraints.

Langford always sees the potential of the design and their team has the skills and latest technology to facilitate strong designs. They can take a concept and make it work, ensuring even bespoke designs are achievable.

We rely on their ability to help us transition the site from concept to reality, using the right materials and finishes with precise execution, which is where Langford excels.

What does that process look like?

Typically, we model the design to visualise it for the clients. And when the client approves, Langford produces technical drawings for fabrication.

After confirming the drawings, the fabrication of the gates and fencing begins. It's a collaborative process where Langford’s expertise informs a more considered design.

How does Langford compare to other contractors in terms of precision, detailing and material longevity?

The key difference is their site-specific, bespoke approach. They don’t use an off-the-shelf method, but provide unique solutions tailored to each site. This reduces mistakes and wasted time, making the process more efficient. Their communication is excellent, which is crucial when managing multiple subcontractors.

What sets Langford apart in the market?

They find innovative solutions to move a concept design from paper to reality, such as different material selections and finishes. For example, they offer powder coating for aluminium, which many clients prefer over the reflective nature of raw aluminium. This kind of detailed thinking opens more options for clients and helps us proceed with our design.
